NEWPORT, R.I. -- Junior middle hitter Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) had a match-best 13 kills to lead Salve Regina University to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's volleyball play Wednesday evening at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
The match was back-and-forth all evening as Salve Regina came away victorious with set scores of 25-21, 17-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-11.
Trailing 13-9 in the third set, the Seahawks reeled off nine straight points to gain momentum and go on to a 2-1 lead.
UNE responded by taking set four to knot the match, but the Nor'easters commited five attack errors and four service miscues in the fifth and deciding set to fall, 15-11.
Sophomore
Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) registered 11 kills to pace a balanced Big Blue attack. She also added six block assists. Senior

Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) chipped in 10 kills apiece. Brunette's output bettered her previous career high by one.

The victory was the first for Salve over UNE in the last five meetings between the two teams. The Seahawks (4-9, 2-1 TCCC) play a TCCC tri-match Saturday at Roger Williams University.
The Nor'easters (8-6, 2-2) fell for the first time in their last five starts. They travel to Lasell College for a tri-match with the Lasers and Framingham State University on Saturday.
