BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Led by 31 assists by first-year setter Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.), the University of New England women's volleyball team grabbed its first The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory of the season with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) win over Regis College Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.
The duo of sophomore Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior Kristen Edwards (Laconia, N.H.) benefitted from Kuehl's setting, combining for 21 kills. First-year Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) added five and a pair of blocks for the Nor'easters (5-5, 1-1 TCCC).
UNE rookie Nicole Kalinowski (Tucson, Ariz.) was brilliant at the service line with five aces and 18-for-21 accuracy. Defensively, first-year Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) came up with a match-best 15 digs.
Regis (3-8, 0-2) was led by first-year Angelica Endara (Boca Raton, Fla.), who had six kills and 11 digs. Senior setter Randi Garrity (Reading, Mass.) dished out 13 assists, while classmate Megan McCarty (Billerica, Mass.) racked up four aces and four total blocks. First-year libero Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) added nine digs and successfully-returned all 30 serves that came her way.
Both teams return to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. UNE hosts Anna Maria College for a TCCC match-up and the Pride entertain Mount Ida College in non-league play.
