Bowdoin takes down UNE in straight sets to get over .500

First-year setter Maria Kuehl had 17 assists, seven digs and three kills in a losing effort

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Bowdoin College improved to 3-2 on the season with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 27-25) victory over the University of New England in non-conference women's volleyball action Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.

Sophomore Hillary Cederna (Cumberland, Maine) had 10 kills to lead the way for the host Polar Bears. Classmate Melissa Haskell (Medfield, Mass.) chipped in seven to go with a team-best 11 digs. Sophomore Stephanie Bond (Lexington, Mass.) dished out 17 assists for Bowdoin, which benefited from nine service aces.

Sophomore Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior Kristen Edwards (Laconia, N.H.) combined for 15 kills for the Nor'easters (3-4). First-year setter Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) contributed 17 assists, seven digs and three kills. Defensively, first-year Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) dug out a match-high 16 balls.

The Nor'easters will look to snap their four-match losing streak Thursday when they head to Standish for a non-league meeting with St. Joseph's College (6 p.m.).
