Colby hands UNE first setback with goal in final minutes

Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine -- First-year midfielder Carly Dee (Wellesley, Mass.) found the back of the net with 2:30 left in a scoreless game to lift Colby College to a 1-0 shutout of the University of New England in non-conference women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Colby Soccer Field.

After more than 87 minutes without a goal, sophomore Kate Pistel (Amherst, Mass.) sent a cross from the left side into the box which bounced past a group of players to the foot of Dee, who blasted it home for the game-winner.

The Mules move to 1-0-1 with the victory, bouncing back from last year's 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Nor'easters -- the lone UNE win in now 14 meetings between the teams. The loss ended Big Blue's three-game win streak to start the season.

For Colby, which held a 7-1 advantage in corners, sophomore Jayde Bennett (Lynn, Mass.) registered five saves.

UNE received seven stops from sophomore Jess Woodworth (Concord, N.H.). The Nor'easters return to Biddeford Thursday to host Thomas College in a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.

The Mules are off until Saturday when NESCAC-foe Wesleyan University visits for a 11 a.m. contest.
