BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England Nor'easters received goals from six different players -- including four in the second half -- on their way to a 6-1 victory over Mount Ida College in non-conference men's soccer action under the lights at Barbara J. Hazard Field on Tuesday evening.

The victory evens the Nor'easters' record at 2-2-1, while the Mustangs are now winless in five outings.

UNE got on the board early when sophomore Kevin Tarr (Hermon, Maine) took a pass from first-year Corey Christie (Hudson, N.H.), dribbled past a Mt. Ida defender and lifted a high shot into the back of the net for his second tally of the season.

A Mount Ida player received his second yellow card (resulting in an ejection) in the 19th minute, but UNE was unable to capatilize on the man advantage until just before the half. Rookie back Matt Christie (Hudson, N.H.) converted a Dan Crear (North Attleboro, Mass.) service on a corner kick at 40:26 to give Big Blue a 2-0 advantage.

The Nor'easters continued to pour it on in the second stanza, getting goals from first-year Kyle McGlone (Peabody, Mass.), seniors Cody Lapointe (Pownal, Maine), Jason Lariviere (Huntington, Mass.) and Shirwac Hussain Ali (Mogadishu, Somalia).

First-year Steve MacDonald (Medford, Mass.) broke up UNE's bid for a shutout, putting home a goal in the 80th minute to get the Mustangs into the scoring column.

Senior goalkeeper Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine) made three saves in 70:30 of scoreless playing time for the Nor'easters, who owned a commanding 31-7 lead in shots. Junior keeper Steven Enright (South Kingston, R.I.) turn aside eight shots for the visitors.

Each team returns to action Saturday. Big Blue will travel to Regis College for a 4 p.m. kick-off, while Mt. Ida plays a 1 p.m. road tilt at Albertus Magnus College.
