Zablowsky, Bigelow shut down Lions as UNE sweeps ENC

QUINCY, Mass. -- Junior Amber Zablowsky (Rochester, Mass.) and sophomore Julie Bigelow (Montpelier, Vt.) combined to give up just four hits as the University of New England swept Eastern Nazarene College by scores of 1-0 and 5-0, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference softball action Saturday afternoon at Mitchell/McCoy FIeld.

Since returning from their Florida trip, the Nor'easters (12-4) have opened up TCCC play with seven wins in eight outings.

Zablowsky gave up two hits and fanned five to earn the game one victory and improve her record to 7-1. UNE plated its lone run with two out in the top of the second inning, when first-year Megan Gauger (South Paris, Maine) reached on a single and scored on a triple to the right field fence by classmate Casey Brigham (New London, Conn.).

Eastern Nazarene first-year Jamie Block (Pembroke, Mass.) took the loss, allowing four hits.

The Nor'easters tagged Block for 10 hits in game two to support Bigelow in her first start of the season. Sophomore Ashley Gott (Winterport, Maine) went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, and scored a pair of runs. Classmate Marie Mantelli (Thompson, Conn.) also had two doubles.

UNE scored one run in the second, third, and fifth innings, before tacking on two insurance runs in the seventh.

Big Blue returns home for a conference doubleheader with New England College Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.

Sophomore Jacquelyn Greenwood (Halifax, Mass.) had two hits on the day for the Lions (2-12, 1-5 TCCC), who visit Wentworth Institute of Technology for a TCCC twinbill Monday.
