BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Jenn Waldecker (Hooksett, N.H.) laced a single to left field in the bottom of the seventh to drive home two, lifting the University of New England to a 5-4 game one win over Gordon College Wednesday afternoon at Claude Dubois Field. The Nor'easters went on to take the nightcap of The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader in five innings by a score of 11-2.

UNE trailed 4-2 entering its final at bat of game one, when senior Julie Monteiro (Portsmouth, R.I.) led off with a single up the middle. Sophomore Maegen Johnson (Standish, Maine) and first-year Casey Brigham (New London, Conn.) both reached on infield hits, before sophomore Ashley Gott (Winterport, Maine) dropped a single into shallow left to plate Monteiro and set up Waldecker's walk-off hit.

For the game, Johnson, Brigham, Gott, and Waldecker combined for nine of the Nor'easters 12 hits.

Big Blue jumped in front early on, when Johnson ripped a triple to the fence in right center and later scored on a Gott RBI single.

Gordon answered back with three runs in the top of the third -- the first two coming off of a double to the center field fence by sophomore Emily Borden (Groton, Conn.). Borden collected three base knocks in the game.

After a UNE score in the bottom of the frame closed the gap to 3-2, Fighting Scots sophomore Kerry McPartlan (Yonkers, N.Y.) blasted a solo homer to left-center in the fifth to push the margin back to two (4-2).

Junior Amber Zablowsky (Rochester, Mass.) earned the victory in the opener, while sophomore Erin Lyons (Salem, N.H.) struck out five and gave up no earned runs to notch the game-two win.

The Nor'easters pushed across four in the last half of the second inning to take control in the nightcap. Following a Waldecker walk and a single by sophomore Marie Mantelli (Thompson, Conn.), first-year Erin Grover (Biddeford, Maine) drove both in with a single to right. UNE sent 10 batters to the plate in the stanza.

Three more in the third inning and another four in the fourth built Big Blue's advantage up to 11-0, before the Fighting Scots tacked on two prior to the game ending with the mercy rule in the fifth.

Mantelli and Monteiro each picked up two hits for UNE (23-11, 16-6 TCCC), and Mantelli added three runs scored. First-year Megan Gauger (South Paris, Maine) also had a pair of hits, to go with three RBI.

The Nor'easters close out the regular-season Saturday at Curry College. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.

First-year Sarah Quint (Wells, Maine) had two hits in the nightcap for Gordon (13-20, 8-14 TCCC), which is slated to visit New England College for a conference twinbill Friday.
