BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Pinch hitter Sabrina Congram (Leominster, Mass.) delivered a single through the left side to break a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth as the University of New England completed a sweep of a The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader with a 5-3 win over Nichols Saturday afternoon at Claude Dubois Field.

Junior Amber Zablowsky (Rochester, Mass.) threw a two-hit shutout in the opener to help UNE to a 5-0 victory.

Congram's single scored pinch-runner Beth Smith (Delanson, N.Y.) to give the Nor'easters a 3-2 advantage. Big Blue would plate two more insurance runs later in the frame on a groundout by first-year Megan Gauger (South Paris, Maine) and a Nichols wild pitch.

The Bison threatened in the top of the seventh, pulling to within two (5-3) on a run-scoring grounder by sophomore Kylie Langton (Medford, Mass.). With two outs and a runner on third, sophomore Chelsea Correira (Seekonk, Mass.) drove a deep shot to left that sophomore Liz Kelly (Hollis, N.H.) tracked down just in front of the fence.

Sophomore Erin Lyons (Salem, N.H.) earned the pitching win for the Nor'easters, allowing six hits and one earned run. She walked one and struck out two to improve her record to 7-3.

Junior Lindsay Hassett (Oxford, Mass.) took the loss for the Bison. She allowed five hits and five walks while fanning three.

Zablowksy (9-1) alllowed just a pair of base runners in the opener while spinning her fourth shutout of the season. She failed to issue a base on balls and whiffed five.

The Nor'easters would get all the offense they would need in the home half of the second on a two-run double by first-year Casey Brigham (New London, Conn.).

UNE added to its lead in the third on an RBI single by sophomore Marie Mantelli (Thompson, Conn.), then pushed two more runs across in the fifth on a line-drive two-bagger from first-year Erin Grover (Biddeford, Maine).

Senior Angie Damon (Scarborough, Maine) and sophomore Ashley Gott (Winterport, Maine) had two hits apiece for the Nor'easters, who pounded out 10 safeties.

Junior Shannon Weeks (Greenfield, Mass.) accounted for both of Nichols' hits, while sophomore pitcher Molly Ferraro (Millis, Mass.) absorbed the loss to drop her record to 4-6. She walked three and struck out four.

Both teams return to play tomorrow with road doubleheaders. The Nor'easters (17-5, 11-1 TCCC) travel to Newport, R.I. to face Salve Regina University and the Bison (7-17, 4-8) head to Weston, Mass. for a twinbill at Regis College.
