LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College Bobcats scored 12 times in the middle two periods as they cruised to an 18-3 men's lacrosse victory over the University of New England Tuesday afternoon at the Campus Avenue Field.
Nick Sampson scored a game-high five goals to lead the way for the winners. Gary Guinta tallied three goals, while David Barrett, Rob Highland and Jason Hichborn chipped in two scores apiece. Barrett and Evan Bagley each were credited with a pair of assists.

Tyler Thomas had two goals and an assist for the Nor'easters. Junior
Luke DiFiore scored UNE's other goal.
Leading 4-2 after one period, the Bobcats outscored UNE 12-1 over the middle two quarters to put the game away. Bates found the back of the cage eight times in the third to assume a commanding 16-3 advantage.
Adam Scharff recorded nine saves for Bates, now 3-0.
Sophomore goalie
Nate Porter stopped 16 shots for the Nor'easters (1-2), who take on the University of Southern Maine Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. That contest will be played at Memorial Field on the campus of Deering High School in Portland.
