BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England ice hockey coach Brad Holt will be in attendance at the Hobey Baker Award banquet when his father, Charlie Holt, will be recognized posthumously as the 2010 Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation Legend of Hockey recipient. Holt will accept the award on his father's behalf, and his acceptance speech will be carried live on ESPNU May 6 at 7 p.m. ET.

Charlie Holt's collegiate coaching career began in 1962 with a six-year stint guiding Colby College. Holt then made the move to Durham, N.H. in 1968, leading the University of New Hampshire to a 22-win season, the first of his eleven 20-win seasons. Known for his trademark fedora, Holt posted 347 career wins at UNH in his 18-year tenure behind the Wildcat bench, second only to current head coach Dick Umile, one of several of Holt's former players who later joined the coaching ranks at the collegiate and pro levels.

Along the way, Holt earned 412 total college hockey victories ranking him 20th all time. He made the ECAC playoffs 14 times, the NCAA playoffs four times, including Frozen Four appearances three times ('77, '79, '82). Charlie was recognized by his peers with the Spencer Penrose Award as college hockey's top coach on three occasions: 1969, 1974 and 1979. He also was an Assistant Coach with the gold medal winning 1980 U.S. Olympic Team. He was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997 before passing away in March of 2000.
