ORLANDO, Fla. -- The University of New England softball team rode the dominant pitching of junior Amber Zablowsky (Rochester, Mass.) and sophomore Erin Lyons (Salem, N.H.) while the offense plated 23 runs in a 10-2, 13-0 doubleheader sweep of Daniel Webster College Tuesday afternoon at the Walt Disney Diamondplex.
Zablowsky allowed five hits and no earned run in game one. She walked none and struck out three to up her record to 2-0. Lyons (2-0) surrendered just a pair of singles in the nightcap as she allowed no hits over the opening 4 1/3 innings. She finished with no walks and five whiffs.
Both contests were halted after five innings due to the eight-run rule.
Offensively, Angie Damon (Scarborough, Maine) continued her torrid start with a pair of hits in each contest. The senior first baseman is 10-for-11 over the first four games.
The Nor'easters opened up the offense early in game one, plating five runs in the first. Damon had an RBI single and senior Lauren Webb (Jericho, Vt.) laced a single that was misplayed, leading to more UNE runs.
Webb and sophomore Marie Mantelli (Thompson, Conn.) each finished with two hits. First-year Megan Gauger (South Paris, Maine) added a triple.
UNE exploded for eight runs in the third inning of game two. The Nor'easters sent 13 hitters to the plate in the frame.
Sophomore Maegen Johnson (Standish, Maine) had two RBI for the Nor'easters, who took advantage of eight Daniel Webster base on balls in scoring their 13 runs.
Sophomore Lauren Chesnulevich and first-year Chelsey Crawford had two hits apiece in the first game for the Eagles, who are winless in three games.
The Nor'easters (4-0) return to action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. doubleheader with St. Joseph College of Connecticut.
