PORTLAND, Maine -- The University of New England scored six of seven goals during a 17-minute stretch in the first half and closed the contest with five of the last seven tallies to pull out a 13-10 victory over the University of Southern Maine in men's lacrosse action Friday afternoon at Deering High School's Memorial Field.
The Nor'easters won for the fourth time in the last five meetings between the two teams, evening their season record at 2-2. The Huskies fall to 0-2.
After USM knotted things up at 8-8 with the first two goals of the third period, junior
Michael Woods (Kittery Point, Maine) and first-year
Tyler Thomas (Pleasantville, N.Y.) scored 27 seconds apart to push the lead back to two. Thomas' marker was his fifth of the game.
Southern Maine sophomore Dan Thomas (Shrewsbury, Mass.) reduced the deficit to one (10-9) with 1:26 left in the third, only to see UNE sophomore

DiFiore pushed the cushion to three (12-9) just over a minute into the fourth quarter. Following a USM score by junior Tim Clark (South Portland, Maine) at the 6:55 mark,
Dylan Thomas and DiFiore connected again to seal the win.

Nate Porter (Cohasset, Mass.) made nine of his 14 saves in the second half to keep the visitors in front.
In the first period, USM junior Tim Bryant (Peterborough, N.H.) notched the first of a team-high three goals at 10:59, putting the hosts up, 3-0.
UNE fought back with a 6-1 run that spanned across the first two periods, as five different players registered scores during the stretch.
Twice the Huskies cut the Nor'easters' lead to one as halftime approached, but
Tyler Thomas responded each time to make UNE's advantage at the break two goals (8-6).
The Nor'easters travel to North Carolina Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match with Guilford College.
USM, which received eight saves from sophomore Kyle Dussault (Lewiston, Maine), is off until March 20 when it visits Maine Maritime Academy.
