BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England Nor'easters scored three second-period goals to break open a tight game on their way to a 6-1 victory over Wesleyan University in an ECAC East/NESCAC crossover men's ice hockey game Saturday afternoon at Biddeford Arena.

After each team traded goals in the first period, the Nor'easters reeled off five unanswered goals -- three in the second frame -- to pick up their first home win of the season. It was also UNE's first triumph over a NESCAC opponent.

First-year forward Jake Moscatel (Lexington, Mass.) broke the 1-1 tie, poking home the eventual game-winner on the power play at 12:45 of the second. Moscatel and junior Jack Nolin (Somersworth, N.H.) would then set-up first-year Tyler Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) five minutes later to double-up the Nor'easters' advantage. First-year Adam Laite (Sydney, Nova Scotia) scored with four seconds left in the frame to give Big Blue a 4-1 advantage.

Sophomore Justin Miner (Stratham, N.H.) and Laite would tack on third-period goals for the Nor'easters, who held a slim 30-29 margin in shots on goal for the contest.

Laite's two-goal effort was his second of the season. Sophomore Tim Margiotta (Randolph, N.J.) notched UNE's goal in the first and added an assist in the second to finish with two points. Moscatel and Fleurent also chipped in two-point afternoons.

First-year forward Ryan White (Grand Island, N.Y.) scored at the 14-minute mark of the first period for the lone Cardinal tally. Junior Anthony DePietto (Westbury, N.Y.) and sophomore Brett Bandazian (Wyckoff, N.J.) were credited with assists.

Junior goaltender Mike Roper (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) made 28 saves to pick up his first win for the Nor'easters. Senior Tim Archibald (Wellesley, Mass.) stopped 24 shots for Wesleyan (7-16, 4-15 NESCAC).

UNE (3-22, 2-17 ECAC) is seeded eighth for the upcoming ECAC East Championship and will head to the tournament's top seed and nation's second-ranked team -- Norwich University. Game time for the Saturday, Feb. 27 contest will be announced tomorrow.
