Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Junior forward Egor Petrov (Novokuznetsk, RU) had a goal and an assist to support a 42-save performance by classmate Wesley Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.) as the Trinity College Bantams skated to a 3-1 win over the University of New England Nor'easters in a men's ice hockey game Friday evening at Biddeford Arena.

Sophomore Michael DeMayo (Seaford, N.Y.) gave the Bantams (14-7-2, 11-5-2 NESCAC) a 1-0 lead at 10:44 of the first when he drove a slap shot home from just inside the blue line. Petrov and first-year forward Zachary Lombardi (Locust Valley, N.Y.) assisted on the play.

After a scoreless second period, Trinity extended its lead to 2-0 with just over five minutes gone by in the third when Lombardi set-up Petrov, who deposited a slap shot from straight-on into the back of the cage.

The Bantams would push the advantage to 3-0 at 16:34 when junior forward Adam Houli (Howell, N.J.) broke in for a short-handed goal – his team-leading 15th tally of the season. Junior defenseman Derek Sandberg (St. Lazare, Quebec) was credited with an assist.

UNE first-year forward Jake Moscatel (Lexington, Mass.) prevented a shutout with 2:31 remaining, notching his team-best sixth goal off feeds from first-year defenseman Kody Collins (Keswick, Ontario) and classmate Scott McManaman (Amherst, Nova Scotia).

Vesprini had a solid game between the pipes for Trinity, turning away all but one of the 43 shots he faced.

Rookie goaltender Dallas Ungurian (Edmonton, Alberta) made 48 saves for the Nor'easters (2-21, 1-17 ECAC).

Both teams conclude their regular season tomorrow. Trinity heads to the University of Southern Maine for a 4 p.m. start, while UNE hosts Wesleyan University at 3 p.m.
