Camels finish strong for 6-2 hockey win over UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Joe Capuano (Melrose, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the Connecticut College Camels to a 6-2 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters in an ECAC/NESCAC crossover game Saturday afternoon at Biddeford Arena.

The Camels (7-14-1, 6-10-1), who trailed 1-0 after a period, talllied three goals in both the second and third frames to pull away. Capuano had a goal in each period, including the game-winner with 14 seconds remaining in the second.

The Nor'easters jumped out early on a power-play goal by first-year Paul Kashmanian (Grand Island, N.Y.) with 1:22 elapsed. UNE would control play throughout much of the period, taking a 14-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Connecticut College knotted the game early in the second when junior Ross James (Orono, Maine) poked in a rebound. The Camels grabbed a 2-1 lead at 13:30 of the period when sophomore J.J. McGregor (Wichita, Kan.) scooped up a rebound and fired a wrister top shelf.

UNE drew even at the 16:23 mark on Kashmanian's second tally. Capuano broke the tie in the waning seconds of the stanza, putting a hard shot on goal that Nor'easter junior netminder Mike Roper (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) stopped initially, but the puck dropped to the ground and bounced over the goal line.

The Camels poured it on in the third, getting goals from senior Brett Moore (Medfield, Mass.), Capuano, and senior Trevor Bradley (West Hartford, Conn.).

Senior goaltender Greg Parker (Trenton, Ontario) made 33 saves for Connecticut College, which was outshot by a slim 35-32 margin. Offensively, McGregor and senior Ryan Joyce (Dorchester, Mass.) each had two assists.

First-year Adam Laite (Sydney, Nova Scotia) set-up a pair of goals for the Nor'easters, who received 33 saves from Roper.

Connecticut College wraps up its regular-season with a pair of home games next week. The Camels host second-ranked Norwich University on Friday and Saint Michael's College on Saturday.

The Nor'easters (2-20, 1-16) skate with Trinity College on Friday and Wesleyan University on Saturday. Both games will be played at Biddeford Arena.
