HOOKSETT, N.H. -- Sophomore John Melancon (Lyman, Maine) scored midway thru the third period to break a 4-all tie, as the University of New England rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Salve Regina University, 6-4, in the consolation game of the PAL Stovepipe Tournament hosted by Southern New Hampshire University.

The victory was the first for the Nor'easters in four starts, while the Seahawks (0-4) remain winless on the season.

Trailing 4-2 in the second, the Nor'easters came storming back behind goals from sophomore Scott McManaman (Amherst, Nova Scotia) and junior Ted Fabian (Oakland, Maine) to tie the game at four.

Neither team would be able to break the deadlock until Melancon capitalized on a feed from sophomore Tyler Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) at 10:15 of the third to give Big Blue a 5-4 advantage.

First-year Matt Del Giudice (Oakland, Maine) added a short-handed empty-net goal with 1:06 remaining to thwart a Seahawk power-play opportunity and give UNE some breathing room.

The Nor'easters wasted little time getting into the scoring column as senior Jack Nolin (Somersworth, N.H.) scored 20 seconds into the contest.

Salve Regina would sandwich a pair of goals around a marker by UNE first-year Sean Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.) to make the score 2-all after one period.

First-year David Mantenuto (Waltham, Mass.) and senior Bryan Russell (Essex Junction, Vt.) tallied consecutive goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second frame to make the score 4-2, setting the stage for the Nor'easters' furious comeback.

UNE goaltender Connor Brogan (Hershey, Pa.) recorded the victory in his first collegiate start. The rookie stopped 24 of the 28 shots he faced.

First-year Rob Campbell (Braintree, Mass.) had 20 saves for the Seahawks.

The Nor'easters were strong on the penalty-kill, denying Salve on 10 of its 12 extra-man situations.

UNE will open its home schedule Friday evening when nationally-ranked Williams College comes to Biddeford Arena for a 7 p.m. game. All the action may be seen live on Nor'easter All-Access.
