Nor'easters top Husson to improve to 3-1 in swimming

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England Nor'easters received a balanced team effort to ease past Husson University, 94-60, in non-conference women's swimming action Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

Six different swimmers took individual wins for the Nor'easters (3-1), who established a 42-10 lead after three events. The final two races of the meet were scored as exhibition.

Junior Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) won the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 5:08.09. Classmate Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) followed with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.28), then sophomore Rachel Hanley (Wiscasset, Maine) was first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:32.48).

Big Blue got winning efforts from three different first-years. Patrice Tetu (Brunswick, Maine) was victorious in the 100-yard buttterfly (1:08.96), Alexa Cheney (Mansfield, Conn.) in the 100-yard free (1:00.37), and Alex Gabriels (East Greenbush, N.Y.) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.93).

In the 50-yard free, junior Nori McLeod (Wiscasset, Maine) and sophomore Meaghan Arsenault (Methuen, Mass.) posted identical times of 28.16 to finish in a dead heat.

Junior Amanda Mason (Dexter, Maine) and sophomore Olivia Grazak (Ramstein, Germany) recorded victories for the Braves (0-2). Mason was first in the 500-yard free (5:59.95) and Grazak claimed an exhibition win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.87).

Each team took first-place honors in a relay event -- UNE in the 200-yard medley and Husson in the 200-yard free.

The Nor'easters are off until they compete in the TCCC Invitational Dec. 3-4 at Roger Williams University. Husson races in the GNAC Championship those same days.
