WESTON, Mass. -- Junior
Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) set three meet records and the University of New England posted a team score of 665 to place second out of six teams Saturday afternoon at the Regis College Invitational. Mount Holyoke College won for the second year in-a-row with a total of 813.
The Nor'easters took the runner-up spot for the second time in as many seasons, after claiming the title in 2008. Simmons College (553), Plymouth State University (405), Regis (253), and Husson University (185) rounded out the field.
Wareham won a meet-high three individual events, taking the 50- (28.16) and 100-yard butterfly (1:02.80) races, as well as the 50-yard freestyle (25.75) -- which she won by just 0.84 seconds.
Mount Holyoke sophomore Madeline Magee (50- and 100-yard breaststroke) and first-year Lauren Williams (100-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM) each swam to victory in a pair of events to help pace the Lyons.
UNE junior
Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) took the 100-yard IM in 1:08.83 (+0.22), and finished second by less than a second to Magee in both breaststroke races.
Classmate
Jessica Sweeney (Hampton, N.H.) picked up the other win for the Nor'easters, clocking a 500-yard freestyle time of 5:42.16 to out-touch the nearest opponent by 1.42 seconds.
All told, five more races saw the meet records fall, including both relay events taken by Mount Holyoke -- edging out the Nor'easters in each.
Big Blue hosts Husson next Saturday (Nov. 20) at 1 p.m. in the Campus Center. Live updates from the meet can be followed
