Plymouth State knocks UNE out of ECAC Championship

Kirsta Adie was brilliant defensively, racking up 24 digs in the Nor'easters 3-0 loss

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Third-seeded Plymouth State University advanced in the ECAC New England Championship with a straight-set victory over sixth-seeded University of New England in a quarterfinal-round match played Wednesday evening at Foley Gymnasium.

The Panthers (19-13) took the 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-17.

Sophomore Casey Stoodley (Salem, N.H.) had 11 kills and 10 assists to lead the way for the winners. Junior setter Sarah Cady (Holliston, Mass.) handed out 25 assists and served-up three aces, while junior Danielle Stoodley (Salem, Mass.) paced the Panther defense with 13 digs.

UNE Kristen Edwards (Laconia, N.H.) wrapped up her career by registering a team-high five kills. Sophomores Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Lindsey Cashell (Merrimack, N.H.) and first-year Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) added four apiece. First-year Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) posted double-double number 13 with 17 assists and 12 digs, while classmate Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) had a three-set career-best 24 digs.

Plymouth State will face the winner of No. 2 Keene State College and #7 Worcester State University in one semifinal Saturday.

The Nor'easters conclude their season with a record of 20-12.
