Nor'easters drop second straight five-set decision

Sophomore Paige Curran racked up 20 kills to establish a career high in a 3-2 loss

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- Despite a career-high 20 kills from sophomore Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.), the University of New England volleyball team suffered its second consecutive five-set decision, losing to Emmanuel College, 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 25-12, 20-25, 15-10) Saturday morning at the 30th annual Crabtree Invitational hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.

In addition to her 20 kills, Curran contributed three blocks and a career-best seven digs. Sophomore Lindsey Cashell (Merrimack, N.H.) had nine kills, while first-year setter Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) was credited with 19 assists.

First-year Nicole Kalinowski (Tucson, Ariz.) had 15 digs to lead four UNE players with double digits in that category. First-year libero Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) had 14, while junior Abby Davis (Somersworth, Mass.) and sophomore Jackie Stone (Saginaw, Mich.) added 10 apiece.

BIg Blue (11-8) will look for a win at the Crabtree Invitational in a 2 p.m. match-up with Worcester State University.
