Katie Caron (Winslow, Maine) and
Alice Read (Auburn, Maine) each recorded two goals to help lead the University of New England to an 8-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference win over Anna Maria College in women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Klingle Field.
The win was the fourth straight for the Nor'easters (9-3, 6-2 TCCC) over the Amcats, and Big Blue is now 11-2 in the all-time series. Anna Maria remains winless on the season at 0-11-2 overall, 0-7-1 in conference matches.
After the opening 35 minutes went without a goal, first-years
Katy Marshall (Eliot, Maine) and
Alex Wells (Franconia, N.H.) scored in the 36th and 39th minutes to put the visitors in front. Read added her first of the game 1:58 later to put UNE up 3-0 at halftime.
The Nor'easters found the back of the net five more times in the second period, including scores from sophomore back
Nicole Faircloth (Westfield, Mass.) and junior back
Jesalyn Dvorak (Windsor, Conn.) -- the first of Dvorak's career.
Big Blue dominated play from the start, finishing with a 52-1 advantage in shot attempts. Junior goalie
Jess Woodworth (Concord, N.H.) made one stop in over 75 minutes to earn the victory, before giving way to Read for the final 14:30.
For the Amcats, who host Salve Regina University Wednesday, Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) posted 35 saves.
UNE entertains Wentworth Institute of Technology the same day. Start time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
