Katy Marshall (Eliot, Maine) scored on a header with 3:35 left in regulation to give the University of New England a 1-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer victory over Colby-Sawyer College Tuesday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The goal came after more than 86 minutes of scoreless action, as play switched from the left side of the field to the right. UNE senior
Cassie Zdrojeski (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) settled the ball and chipped back to the front of the net, where Marshall rose up to knock in the only marker of the match.
With their fifth straight win over the Chargers, the Nor'easters improve to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in league contests. The loss drops Colby-Sawyer to 3-8-2 on the season (2-4-1 TCCC).
Junior goalie
Jess Woodworth (Concord, N.H.) only needed to make one save to record her fifth shutout of the season, while her counterpart from the Chargers, sophomore Shalyn Spencer (Natick, Mass.), posted five stops.
UNE, which out-shot their opponents by an 18-3 margin, visits Anna Maria College Saturday at noon.
Colby-Sawyer is back in action the same day, when it hosts Western New England College at 12:30 p.m.
