BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomore Jennifer Ryan (Weston, Fla.) and first-year Monique Haney (Rialto, Calif.) each won a pair of events while setting three pool records to lead the Assumption College Greyhounds to a 117-83 win over the University of New England Nor'easters in a women's swim meet held at the Campus Center Wednesday evening.
The win was the third conseucutive in as many starts for the Greyhounds, while the meet was the season-opener for the Nor'easters.
Haney shattered two pools records by posting times of 2:15.21 in the 200-yard individual medley and 5:22.76 in the 500-yard freestyle, while Ryan set a new mark in the 1,000-yard free (11:12.20). Ryan's other victory came in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.51.
The Greyhounds established two more pool records, thanks to sophomore Amanda Guy's (Lakeville, Mass.) time of 2:02.92 in the 200-yard free and a 1:03.42 performance by first-year Carly Eckles (Sherborn, Mass.) in the 100-yard backstroke.
Assumption first-year Dorian George (Holden, Mass.) was victorious in the 100-yard free, posting a time of 59.50.
The Nor'easters received individual wins from junior
Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) and junior
Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.). Wareham captured the 50-yard free (26.45) and Shea the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.34).
Each squad won a relay event -- Assumption the 200-yard medley and Big Blue the 400-yard free.
The Greyhounds compete next on Sunday when they head to Eastern Connecticut State University for a noon start. UNE will have a road meet this Saturday at Regis College (1 p.m.).
