QUINCY, Mass. -- Eastern Nazarene College received two first-half goals from senior Bryan Wright (Bridgewater, Mass.) and built a three score cushion in the second before having to hold on in the final moments for a 3-2 The Commonwealth Coast Conference win over the University of New England in the regular-season finale Wednesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions wrap up the season winning five of their last six, improving to 6-11 overall (4-9 TCCC). With the loss, the Nor'easters drop to 3-9-5 on the year (1-8-4 TCCC).
Wright got the hosts on the board in the 36th minute, and 3:40 later made it 2-0 -- a lead Eastern Nazarene took into intermission.
A header by sophomore Josh Kaplan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) at the 60-minute mark pushed the advantage to 3-0 before UNE began to fight back.
First-year
Matt Christie (Hudson, N.H.) recorded his second goal of the season in the 72nd minute, one-timing a deflected free kick into the back of the net.
With 30 seconds remaining, junior
Kiel Hiller (Galloway, N.J.) put home his third goal in as many games to make the difference one (3-2), but the Nor'easters could not find the equalizer before time ran out.
Senior
Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine) made seven stops for UNE, while his counterpart, senior Andrew Trice (Quincy, Mass.) posted two saves for the Lions.
