SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Western New England College found the back of the net four times during a 17-minute span early in the second half to break open a scoreless game and earn a 4-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer victory over the University of New England Saturday morning at Suprenant Field.
The win improved WNEC to 7-4-1 on the season, 5-1 in TCCC games. After dropping back-to-back matches, the Nor'easters stand at 3-4-3 overall (1-3-2 TCCC). In six meetings between the teams all-time, the Golden Bears are 5-0-1.
Tied at the half, WNEC came out firing in the initial moments of the final period. Goals by first-year Andrew Rose (Farmington, Conn.) in the 49th minute and junior Corey Howard (Hopedale, Mass.) in the 61st minute sandwiched the first of two scores by senior Alex Dos Santos (Ludlow, Mass.) in the 60th minute to get the lead to 3-0.
Dos Santos added another marker at the 65:14 mark to complete the scoring.
For the match, the Golden Bears held sizeable advantages in shots (22-7) and corners (8-0).
WNEC, which got a pair of saves from junior Sean Healey (Portland, Conn.) in 74 minutes of action before sophomore Nick Starr (Somers, Conn.) finished up, will host Eastern Nazarene College Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine) made seven saves for UNE, which entertains Colby-Sawyer College Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
