MILTON, Mass. -- Junior
Katie Caron (Winslow, Maine) and sophomore
Lauren Blaisdell (Scarborough, Maine) each found the back of the net after halftime to give the University of New England a 2-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Curry College in women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.
The win moves the Nor'easters to 11-4 on the season (8-3 TCCC), while the Colonels drop to 9-6 overall (7-4 TCCC). Big Blue has now won the last four meetings between the teams.
After the first period went scoreless, despite Curry jumping out to a 7-1 edge in shots after the opening 30 minutes, UNE came out firing in the second frame. Caron put the visitors on the board at the 56:00 mark off a feed from senior
Cassie Zdrojeski (Massapequa Park, N.Y.).
Nearly 20 minutes later, Blaisdell doubled the margin, taking a pass from junior
Sarah Richardson (Rochester, N.H.) and hitting home a one-timer for her fourth marker of the year.
The Colonels applied some pressure late but UNE junior
Jess Woodworth (Concord, N.H.) kept the shutout intact, finishing with a season-high 14 saves.
Sophomore keeper Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.) made seven stops for Curry, which visits Emmanual College Thursday (7 p.m.).
The Nor'easters are off until Saturday when they host Nichols College on Senior Day. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
