Big Blue plays Roger Williams to scoreless draw

Jon Planer posted his second-highest save total of the year to keep the Hawks off the board

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The University of New England played to a 0-0 double overtime tie with Roger Williams University in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field.

For the Nor'easters (3-7-4, 1-6-3 TCCC), the draw snaps a five-game losing streak. The Hawks move 5-8-2 overall, 5-3-2 in conference matches. After dropping the first 10 meetings all-time between the two squads, UNE has come away with a win and a tie in the last two.

Senior Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine) made 12 saves for UNE, which was out-shot 39-8 by RWU in the contest.

Roger Williams, which received three stops from senior Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.), returns to the field Tuesday at Endicott College (3:30 p.m.).

The Nor'easters travel to Curry College the same day for a 6:30 p.m. match under the lights.
