Big third period carries Franklin Pierce past UNE

Sophomore Ted Fabian tied the game with a goal midway thru the third period

WINCHENDON, Mass. -- Sophomore forward Anthony Chighisola had a goal and an assist in the third period as Franklin Pierce University scored three times to take a 4-2 win over the University of New England Nor'easters in non-league men's ice hockey action played at The Winchendon School Arena.

The Ravens snapped a six-game losing streak to improve to 4-9-2, while the Nor'easters fell to 1-11.

With the score tied 1-1 after two periods, Chighisola snapped a shot just inside the far post from the top of the left-wing circle with 2:20 elapsed for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.

The Nor'easters would respond at 9:46 when sophomore forward Ted Fabian stuffed home a marker off a feed from first-year defenseman Kody Collins.

Franklin Pierce notched the game-winner at the 13:30 mark when Chighisola and first-year defenseman Brendan McCarron set-up junior forward Sean Woodring on the power play.

Senior forward Phil LaBreck would add an empty-net goal with five seconds remaining to make the final score 4-2.

Earlier in the contest, LaBreck tallied the lone goal of the first period to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

UNE sophomore forward Chris Bolton tied the game at 12:49 of the second with assists from first-years Jake Moscatel and Brendan Brickley.

Senior goaltender Jon Tuttle made 31 saves in net for the Ravens,who won despite being outshot, 33-28.

The Nor'easters, who host Colby College Friday at 7 p.m., received 24 stops from first-year Dallas Ungurian.
