NEWPORT, R.I. -- Junior Kristin Meza (San Diego, Calif.) scored 4:42 into overtime to give the University of New England a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Salve Regina University in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Reynolds Field.

The Nor'easters only needed one shot in the extra session, as Meza collected a ball in front of the Seahawk goal and fired a shot that deflected off a defender into the back of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Trailing 2-1 after a 71st minute goal from Salve first-year Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, R.I.), sophomore Katie Caron (Winslow, Maine) scored her second goal of the contest four minutes later off a feed from senior Ali Trafton (Manchester, Maine) to tie things up and send the game into overtime.

Meza set up Caron in the 54th minute for her first goal of the match that leveled the score at 1-1.

Sophomore Jordan Sileo (Bristol, Conn.) assisted on a goal in the 35th minute by senior Jen Duval (Dudley, Mass.) that got the hosts on the board first in the opening frame.

Senior Leigh Engel (Richmondville, N.Y.) made three saves for the Nor'easters (7-1, 4-1 TCCC), who snapped the Seahawks' six-game win streak and handed Salve (7-3) its first TCCC setback in five outings.

Engel's counterpart, senior Katie Vaudrain (Pawtucket, R.I.), recorded seven saves in the loss.

UNE, which out-shot its opponent 17-7 in the second period, takes to the pitch again Saturday when Anna Maria College visits for a 1 p.m. match.

Salve Regina plays the same day at Western New England College.
