Mules collect 3-1 home victory over Nor'easters

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Caitlin Burchill helped Colby College square its record at 4-4 by providing 12 kills and 24 digs as the Mules claimed a 3-1 (25-22, 25-14, 17-25, 25-22) win over the University of New England Nor'easters in non-conference volleyball action Wednesday evening at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Junior Kristen Edwards had a season-high 13 kills to go with three blocks to lead the Nor'easters' attack. Senior Claire Varner chipped in eight kills, and classmate Ellen Choinski registered a double-double with 17 assists and 15 defensive digs.

A pair of first-years offered strong performances for UNE. Setter Emily Winters came off the bench to rack up 11 assists and three aces over the final two sets, while Kayla Sampson dug out 12 balls.

The Nor'easters (3-5) host a non-conference tri-match on Saturday. UNE takes on Lasell College at 11 a.m., then wraps up the day's action with a 3 p.m. tilt versus Babson College.
