Fighting Scots hand UNE first loss in women's soccer

First-year Karina Scavo got the Nor'easters on the scoreboard with a goal in the 19th minute

WENHAM, Mass. -- First-year midfielder Caitlin Nedde (Colchester, Vt.) scored a pair of goals to help lead the Gordon College Fighting Scots to a 3-2 The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon.

With the scored knotted a 1-all, Nedde scored late in the first half to give Gordon (3-3, 2-0 TCCC) a 2-1 advantage at intermission, then notched another goal in the opening minute of the second frame as the Fighting Scots doubled their lead.

Sophomore Meagan Chandler tallied her first goal of the season in the 71st minute to get the Nor'easters within one (3-2), but they were unable to put home the equalizer the rest of the way.

Gordon's Kaelyn McBride got the scoring underway in the 13th minute when she scored off a scramble on a corner kick.

UNE first-year midfielder Karina Scavo knotted the score at one apiece six minutes later when she converted a shot from long distance.

Leigh Engel and Jess Woodworth combined for make eight stops for the Nor'easters, who suffered their first loss in five starts. 

UNE, 1-1 in conference play, host Regis College Tuesday at 4 p.m.
