UNE cruises in TCCC opener against Regis

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year outside hitter Lindsey Cashell (Merrimack, N.H.) led the University of New England with 11 kills in a 3-0 victory over Regis College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's volleyball action Saturday morning at the Campus Center. The set scores were 25-7, 25-10, and 25-22.

Senior setter Ellen Choinski (Saunderstown, R.I.) racked up 23 assists for the Nor'easters, who even their record at 3-3 (1-0 TCCC). As a team, UNE totaled 18 service aces, receiving seven from first-year middle hitter Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.), five from Choinski, and three from senior outside hitter Claire Varner (Breckenridge, Mich.).

First-year outside hitter Jackie Stone (Saginaw, Mich.) registered a team-high 10 digs. Varner notched an additional nine digs in the match, and Curran tallied four blocks.

Sophomore Domingas Gomes (Brockton, Mass.) had six kills and seven digs for the Pride (4-8, 0-1 TCCC). Senior Amanda Hoyt (Madison, N.H.) also recorded seven digs for Regis, while junior Randi Garrity (Reading, Mass.) accumulated 14 assists.
