Saucier lifts UNE over Gordon for first time since 1997

WENHAM, Mass. -- Senior Dylan Saucier scored an unassisted goal in the 79th minute of a scoreless game to give the University of New England a 1-0 victory over Gordon College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

Saucier found an opening on the left wing and blasted a high left-footed shot into the net for what would prove to be the game-winner.

The win is the third straight for the Nor'easters (4-1, 2-0 TCCC), who had dropped 11 consecutive games to Gordon, dating back to the 1997 season. The Fighting Scots fall to 2-4 overall and stand at 1-1 in conference play.

Junior goalkeeper Jon Planer played a strong first half for the Nor'easters, denying Gordon six times over the opening 45 minutes. He finished the contest with a total of eight stops for his first collegiate shutout.

Gordon, which received three saves from Zach Frey, doubled-up UNE in shots (20-10), and held a 10-4 margin in corner kicks.

The Nor'easters will look to make it three straight wins Tuesday when they host Regis College under the lights beginning at 6:30 p.m.
