Burch named men's assistant lacrosse coach

The Nor'easters have added Maine high school coaching legend Charlie Burch to their staff
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Charlie Burch, a long-time successful high school coach, has agreed to join the University of New England men's lacrosse coaching staff as its top assistant.

Burch posted a record of 289-102-1 over 24 seasons. He guided Cape Elizabeth High School to a 160-39 mark from 1986-1997, then led Kennebunk High School to a 129-63-1 record from 1998 thru this past season. He received six different coach-of-the-year awards during his career, and was the recipient of the 2009 US Lacrosse Maine Man of the Year Award.

"We are extremely excited to add Charlie to our staff," said UNE head coach Jon Hunt. "He will provide us with a deep understanding of the game, and he knows what it takes to be successful. Charlie's expertise and experience will be huge assets for our program."

The Nor'easters are coming off their most successful season in the history of the program. UNE posted a school-record six wins in 2009 and earned its first postseason berth.
