NEWPORT, R.I. -- Leading 3-2 at halftime, the Salve Regina University Seahawks scored four goals in the third period -- two by Chris Walker -- to pull away for an 8-4 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon.

After Brendan Rooney notched a pair of first-period goals to help Salve forge a 3-1 advantage, Dan Leyden tallied the lone goal of the second frame to get the Nor'easters within one at 3-2.

Rooney, Walker and Blair Kelly scored three consecutive goals in the opening 5:27 of the third period to push the Seahawks' lead to 6-2.  The two squads would each post two scores the rest of the way for the final margin of 8-4.

Walker and Rooney finished with three goals apiece to lead the 9-1 Seahawks (5-0 TCCC), who held a commanding 54-25 lead in shots.  Brian Walker made 14 saves to register the win between the pipes.

Leyden had three of UNE's four goals, with sophomore Michael Woods adding one.  Senior Eric Santos was brilliant on the draw, winning 9 of 13 face-offs in which he was involved.  Rookie goaltender Nate Porter came up with a season-high 20 stops.

The Nor'easters return to the field Tuesday when they host the nation's fifth-ranked team -- Endicott College -- at 4:00 p.m.
