PAXTON, Mass. – Led by two dominant pitching efforts from Erin Lyons (Salem, N.H.) and Amber Zablowsky (Rochester, Mass.), the Nor'easters of the University of New England swept a The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader at Anna Maria.

UNE improves to 19-8-1 overall with a 10-7-1 record in the TCCC, while Anna Maria falls to 8-24 overall with a 6-12 record in conference games.

The Nor'easters set the tone early in game one with a solo home run by left fielder Megan Gaedje (Tolland, Conn.).

Anna Maria answered back scoring a run in the bottom half of the inning, with Sarah Boyda (Oxford, Mass.) scoring on an overthrow.

The game remained locked at 1-1 until the fourth inning when UNE scored twice on a two-run single from outfielder Julie Monteiro (Portsmouth, R.I.).

Anna Maria responded once again when Boyda singled home Jonelle Eye (Webster, Mass.) during the bottom half of the inning. But that would be the end of the scoring for the AMCATS as pitcher Erin Lyons settled in and shut them down the rest of the way. The Nor'easters went on to plate a run in both the 6th and 7th innings, making the final score 5-2.

Lyons finished with a complete game, striking out a career-high 13 batters. Catcher Ashley Gott (Winterport, Maine) finished 3-for-3 while Monteiro led the way with two RBI's.

Boyda had a solid day at the plate going 3-for-4 while scoring once and driving in a run. Emily Nugent (Worcester, Mass.) and Jonelle Eye also had two hits in the game for AMCATS.

The big story of game two was the stellar pitching performance of Zablowsky. Backed by solid defense and no walks on the afternoon, Zablowsky took a perfect game into the 7th inning before Boyda spoiled the perfect game with a solid lead-off single to begin the inning.

AMC's Holly Renna (Charlton, Mass.) was locked in on the mound as well, until the 5th inning when UNE junior outfielder Angie Damon (Scarborough, Maine) launched a two-run homer over the left-center field fence.

UNE scored one run in the 6th and four more in the 7th to open up an eight-run lead.

The Anna Maria offense finally came alive in the 7th inning. After the leadoff single by Boyda, Becky Mercurio followed with a base knock of her own. After a fielder's choice moved Boyda to third, she scored when Alyssa Boykin (Worcester, Mass.) took off for second base on a steal attempt.

Zablowsky allowed only two hits while striking out five and walking none. Damon led the way on offense for UNE with two hits and two RBI. Second basemen Caroline Engwer (Wrentham, Mass.) also had two hits and two runs scored for the Nor'easters.

UNE will place its six-game win streak on the line tomorrow when Western New England College comes to Biddeford for a noon doubleheader.
