Webb powers Nor'easters to sweep of Regis

WESTON, Mass. -- Junior Lauren Webb had six hits and scored five times to lead the University of New England Nor'easters to a 16-7, 2-0 sweep of the Regis College Pride in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader played under the lights at Weston High School Tuesday night.

After having lost five of their last six heading into the twinbill, the Nor'easters were able to up their record to 15-8-1 overall and 8-7-1 in conference play.  Regis dropped to 3-22 (1-15 TCCC).

UNE used a 19-hit onslaught to take game one by the score of 16-7.  Leading 8-7 after four innings, the Nor'easters hung up four runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh to ice the victory.  Webb led the way with four runs scored, three hits and three runs batted in, while first-year Maegen Johnson had a productive game at the top of the lineup with four singles and three runs scored.

Other offensive contributors included senior Ashley DePasquale, who had a two-run home run and RBI single, and senior Megan Gaedje, who came up with a pair of hits and three runs scored.

First-year pitcher Erin Lyons worked five innings in relief to earn the victory.  She allowed two earned runs and struck out eight.

Lyons and sophomore Amber Zablowsky combined on a three-hit shutout in the second game.  Lyons was credited with the win to run her record to 6-2.

Offensively, DePasquale jacked a solo homer in the first, and Webb knocked in the other run in the third.  Webb finished the contest 3-for-3.

The Nor'easters head to Waterville on Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader with Thomas College.
