COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- First-year pitcher Erin Lyons (Salem, N.H.) fired a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts, as the University of New England defeated Mount Ida College, 3-0, to split a pair of games at the Cocoa Expo.  The Nor'easters dropped a 12-0 decision to Alfred University in their first game of the day.

Senior Megan Gaedje (Tolland, Conn.) had three hits to lead UNE's eight-hit attack versus Mount Ida.  Junior Lauren Webb (Jericho, Vt.) knocked in two of the Nor'easters' three runs.

Lyons worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth and a second-and-third situation in the fifth to preserve the shutout.

In the opener, Jordan Siefer (Sylvania, Ohio), Jesika LaBarron (Campbell, N.Y.) and Samantha Rollins (Hornwell, N.Y.) had three hits apiece to lead the Saxons' 16-hit attack.  Winning pitcher Chelsey Cary (Corfu, N.Y.) allowed just one hit and fanned 10.

Senior Rachel Boutin (Winslow, Maine) had the lone hit for the Nor'easters (1-1), who play Penn State Allegheny and Norwich University tomorrow.
