BOSTON -- Senior Megan Gaedje (Tolland, Conn.) scored on an infield error with one out in the bottom of the eighth to give the University of New England Nor'easters a stirring 11-10 victory to complete a sweep of Wentworth Institute of Technology in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader at Carr Diamond.

Gaedje, who earlier in the inning had tied the game at 10-all with a single, scampered home when a Wentworth infielder made an errant throw trying to erase her at the plate.

Leading 6-0 after four innings, the Nor'easters saw their lead evaporate when the Leopards plated five runs in the fifth.

UNE -- considered the home team due to the game being moved to Boston -- recovered to lead 9-7 after six innings.  Wentworth would not go quietly, however, pushing across a pair of unearned runs after the first two batters of the seventh were retired to knot the contest at 9-9.

The Leopards took advantage of the international tie-breaker to score a single run in the first extra inning, before UNE struck for a pair of runs and a walk-off win in the bottom of the eighth.

Gaedje had two hits and three runs batted in to help UNE to the win.  First-year center fielder Maegen Johnson (Standish, Maine) had a big game with three hits and four runs scored.  Classmate Julie Bigelow (Montpelier, Vt.) earned the win with one inning of hitless relief.

In the first game of the doubleheader, first-year Marie Mantelli (Thompson, Conn.) had three hits and five RBI to power UNE to an 11-3 win in six innings.

Mantelli blasted a first-inning grand slam to provide the Nor'easters with an early 4-0 advantage, and junior Jenn Waldecker (Hooksett, N.H.) added a two-run blast in the fourth for one of her three hits.  Johnson and Gaedje had two hits apiece as part of UNE's 13-hit attack.

Starting pitcher Amber Zablowsky (Rochester, Mass.) worked the first four innings to earn her first victory of the season.

Junior Kim Cabral had four hits in the two games for Wentworth (2-8, 0-2 TCCC).

UNE (7-1, 2-0) will play its home-opener Saturday when Curry College comes to Biddeford for a TCCC twinbill starting at noon.
