Hawks fly into semifinals with 3-0 sweep of UNE

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The fourth-seeded Roger Williams University Hawks defended their homecourt with a 3-0 quarterfinal round sweep of No. 5 University of New England in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship volleyball match played Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-11, 25-19, 25-20.

Rebekah Dion had 11 kills and three blocks to lead the Hawks (19-10), who advance to one semifinal-round match Thursday to face top-seeded Endicott College -- a straight-set winner over Regis College. TCCC Rookie of the Year Emily Lebowitz dished out 38 assists to fuel the Roger Williams attack.

For the match, the Hawks hit an impressive .312 and racked up 10 service aces.

First-year Paige Curran led the way for the Nor'easters with five kills and a pair of block assists. Senior Ellen Choinski, junior Kristen Edwards and first-year Jillian Goldstein added three kills apiece. Choinski chipped in 13 assists and two block assists.

The win was the third of the season for the Hawks over UNE, which concludes its season with an 11-16 record.
