Warriors battle back to take 3-1 decision over UNE

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- Host Eastern Connecticut State University recovered after dropping the first set to take a 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17) volleyball victory over the University of New England in opening-day action of the 29th Annual Crabtree Classic at Geissler Gymnasium.

The win improved the Warriors' overall record to 9-11, while the Nor'easters slipped to 6-9.

Junior Angie Gust was a defensive standout for the visiting Nor'easters, digging out 19 balls and successfully returning 29 of the 34 serves that came her way.

First-year Lindsey Cashell continued her strong play with a team-best nine kills. Junior Kristen Edwards contributed five and matched first-year Paige Curran with four blocks. Senior Ellen Choinski was credited with 17 assists.

The Nor'easters return to play tomorrow with a 10 a.m. match versus Emmanuel College and a 2 p.m. tilt against Amherst College.
