BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year Zachary Kumin (Needham, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season in the 81st minute to give Curry College a 1-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over the University of New England in men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon.

The rookie collected a pass from classmate Darren Smith (Wilmington, Del.) just inside the box and ripped a low shot to the left of the diving goalie.

The win was the sixth in seven games for the Colonels (8-3-1), who remain tied with Roger Williams University atop the conference standings with a 6-1 league mark.

Despite holding advantages in shots (16-11) and corners (5-0), the Nor'easters dropped their third consecutive game and now stand at 7-4 overall, 4-3 in TCCC contests.

Sophomore Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J.) made six saves in goal for Curry, which hosts Salve Regina University on Saturday.

UNE, which travels to New England College the same day for a 2:30 p.m. match, received four saves from junior Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine).
