Choinski's versatility leads Nor'easters past Gordon

Ellen Choinksi fueled the UNE attack with 44 assists and anchored the defense with 15 digs

WENHAM, Mass. -- Senior co-captain Ellen Choinski had 44 assists, 15 digs and six kills to lead the University of New England to a 3-1 volleyball win over Gordon College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

The Nor'easters dropped the first set, 25-19, but recovered to win the next three sets (25-22, 25-12, 25-21) and take their second TCCC match of the afternoon. Earlier in the day, UNE dropped Anna Maria in straight sets.

Junior Kristen Edwards contributed 13 kills to the UNE win versus Gordon, while first-year Lindsey Cashell added 11. Junior Meghan Flynn continued her solid play with seven kills, and first-year Paige Curran won nine points with five kills and four blocks.

Defensively, junior Angie Gust dug out 11 balls for the Nor'easters.

Winners of three straight, the Nor'easters (11-15, 6-4) are seeded fifth for the upcoming TCCC Championship and will travel to fourth-seeded Roger Williams University on Tuesday (Nov. 3) for a 7 p.m. match. The Hawks defeated UNE twice during the regular season, 3-1 on Sept. 12 and 3-0 on Oct. 14.
