UNE overcomes elements, Anna Maria for 8-1 victory

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Kate Pemberton (Scarborough, Maine) and first-year Lauren Blaisdell (Scarborough, Maine) scored two goals apiece as the University of New England Nor'easters downed Anna Maria College, 8-1, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer match played in sloppy conditions Saturday afternoon.

Blaisdell notched one goal in each half, and Pemberton scored the final two goals of the contest for the Nor'easters, who improved to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in TCCC play. UNE is a perfect 5-0 at home this season.

Junior Cassie Zdrojeski (Massapequa Park, N.Y.), first-year Karina Scavo (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), and sophomores Sarah Richardson (Rochester, N.H.) and Maggie Mahoney (Newburyport, Mass.) each found their way into the scoring column, as UNE matched its season high for goals scored in a game. 

Mahoney and junior Kristin Meza (San Diego, Calif.) had two assists apiece for the Nor'easters, who dominated in shots (30-2) and corner kicks (15-1).

The Amcats avoided being shut out when senior Maggie Sielawa (Webster, Mass.) scored in the 83rd minute. First-year Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) started in goal for Anna Maria and made 12 stops over the opening 77 minutes. She was also credited with an assist on the Amcats' lone goal.

UNE won for the fourth consecutive outing and has now outscored TCCC opponents 27-7 in six games. The Nor'easters will look to extend their winning streak to five when they host Curry College on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Anna Maria (1-10, 0-6 TCCC) entertains Wentworth Institute of Techonology on Wednesday (4 p.m.).
