BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Anna Maria College scored in the first and last minute of the opening period and held the University of New England scoreless for the second time in as many games en route to a 2-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory in men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The Amcats (7-4) evened their conference mark at 3-3 with the win. The Nor'easters fall to 7-3 overall (4-2 TCCC) with their second straight loss.

Senior George Markopoulos (Worcester, Mass.) headed in cross from the left side off the foot of first-year Justin Hyland (Leicester, Mass.) to put the visitors in front just one minute into the contest.

Anna Maria junior Michael Powell (Salem, Mass.) doubled his team's lead with 18 seconds left in the first half when he headed home a corner kick from senior Armen Billian (Worcester, Mass.).

The Nor'easters held advantages in shots (8-4) and corners (5-1) over the final 45 minutes as the teams battled wet and muddy field conditions, but could not find the back of the net.

Junior Eric Perkins (Peabody, Mass.) recorded nine saves to earn the shutout for the Amcats, who take on Wentworth Institute of Technology Tuesday.

UNE, which received one save from junior goalie Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine), will host Curry College the same day at 4 p.m.
