BOSTON, Mass. -- Wentworth Institute of Technology found the back of the net twice during a 10-minute span in the second half to shut out the University of New England, 2-0, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Leopards got on the board in the 54th minute following a handball violation in the UNE box. Sophomore Josh Deschene (Webster, Mass.) stepped up to take the ensuing penalty kick and fired it into the right side of the goal.
Wentworth doubled its cushion at the 63:13 mark when junior John Golden (Whitman, Mass.) placed a shot the top of the box into the upper left corner of the net.
The hosts out-shot UNE 15-5 in the second period, and, for the game, held a 23-11 advantage.
With the win, Wentworth (7-6, 6-4 TCCC) improves to 10-1-1 in the last 12 meetings between the two teams. The Nor'easters fall to 9-5 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Junior Brian Pearsall (Sanford, Maine) made four saves for the Leopards, who visit Colby-Sawyer College Tuesday.
