Nor'easters surge back to clip Emmanuel

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- Trailing two sets to one, the University of New England volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 victory over Emmanuel College at the 29th Annual Crabtree Classic hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University at Geissler Gymnasium.

After dropping the opening set (17-25), UNE squared the match by winning the second, 25-22. The Saints took a 2-1 lead by winning the third set (25-18), but the Nor'easters battled back to win the fourth by a score of 25-22, then the fifth and deciding set at 15-8.

Senior Claire Varner paced the Nor'easter attack with 14 kills. First-year Lindsey Cashell added 11 to go with a team-high 12 blocks. Classmate Paige Curran played a strong net game with eight kills and three blocks.

UNE senior setter Ellen Choinski was credited with 42 assists, while junior Angie Gust and first-year Jackie Stone combined to successfully return 42 of 45 serves received.

The win upped the Nor'easters' record to 7-9. Emmanuel now stands at 13-6.
