Nor'easters go 1-2 at Roger Williams Invitational

Junior Ellen Choinski played three solid matches to earn all-tourney accolades

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The University of New England Nor'easters posted a 1-2 record at the Roger Williams University Invitational on Saturday at the Roger Williams Athletics Complex.  UNE lost to tourney champ Amherst College (0-3), defeated Rivier College in five sets (3-2), and were swept by the host Hawks (0-3).

Amherst made quick work of the Nor'easters in the day's first match, sweeping by scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-17.  Ellen Choinski had 10 assists, six kills and three blocks to pace the Nor'easters, while Alex Toregas chipped in with seven kills and seven blocks.

UNE won the first two sets versus Rivier, but were pushed to a fifth set when Rivier rallied.  The Nor'easters won the deciding set by the score of 15-9.  Josie Raphaelito fueled the offense with 30 assists.  Toregas led the attack with 13 kills to go with seven blocks.  Choinksi put down eight balls to help the cause.  Defensively, Angie Gust and Chelsea Boyle combined for 22 digs.

Roger Williams downed UNE 25-15, 25-15, 25-23 in the Nor'easters' finale.  Choinksi was credited with 22 assists en route to an all-tournament selection.  Toregas added six blocks.

The Nor'easters (1-5) return to the court Wednesday when they head to Bowdoin College for a non-conference match beginning at 6:30 p.m.
