UNE played its second overtime game in as many matches, but this time came out on the losing end
Box Score
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of Southern Maine senior forward Sanisa Bajic (Belgrade, Serbia) drilled home a hard shot from the top of the box, giving the Huskies a 1-0 sudden-death overtime win versus the University of New England in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday evening.
The win keeps the Huskies unbeaten at 2-0-1, while the Nor'easters now stand at 1-1-0 on the young season.
After the two teams played 90 minutes of scoreless soccer, Husky junior midfielder Peter McHugh (Portland, Maine) collected an errant UNE clearing attempt and played the ball to Bajic, who rocketed the ball just under the crossbar in the middle of the goal with 1:21 elapsed in overtime. The tally was Bajic's second of the season and 40th of his career.
USM held a 12-7 margin in shots and a 7-1 cushion in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Steve May (Brunswick, Maine) made four saves to earn his first shutout.
Junior Derek Poulin (Scarborough, Maine) was credited with three saves for the Nor'easters, who are idle until Sept. 13 when they open their The Commonwealth Coast Conference schedule at Eastern Nazarene College.
The Huskies will look to remain unbeaten when they play their home-opener Saturday versus St. Joseph's College (1:00 p.m.).
