Box Score
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year midfielder Tony Lania (Concord, Mass.) scored on a header with 4:57 remaining in double overtime to give the Salve Regina University Seahawks a 2-1 sudden-victory win over the University of New England Nor'easters in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer action Monday evening.
Lania's game-winner came off a left-flank service from sophomore back Sean McAllister (North Arlington, N.J.). Lania re-directed the ball high into the center of the goal from about eight yards out.
Salve Regina's triumph came after the Nor'easters had tied the match in the final minute of regulation. First-year midfielder Eric Goldberg (Colorado Springs, Colo.) found classmate Kiel Hiller (Galloway, N.J.) streaking down the middle of the field. Hiller collected the pass and ripped a shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net.
After the two teams played more than 83 minutes of scoreless soccer, Salve first-year midfielder Ian Jentgen (Columbus, Ohio) converted a header off a service from senior Alex Clark (Ridgefield, Conn.) to make the score 1-0 at 83:28.
Junior Kurt Ginthwain (Tolland, Conn.) made six saves to record the victory for the Seahawks (4-4, 3-1 TCCC), who return to the pitch tomorrow versus Regis College. Start time in Newport, R.I. is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
For UNE (2-3-2, 1-2-1), which hosts Gordon College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.), junior Derek Poulin (Scarborough, Maine) made seven stops.
